Pharrell Williams has landed one of the most prestigious positions in all of fashion.
The creative mastermind has been appointed Louis Vuitton’s new Men’s Creative Director—the position previously held by the late Virgil Abloh prior to his passing. Williams will debut his first collection in June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.
Louis Vuitton Chairman and CEO Pietro Beccari issued the following statement in regards to the hiring:
I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter.
Williams’ involvement in the fashion industry spans multiple decades now. Pharrell, along with NIGO, founded the apparel brand Billionaire Boys Club in 2003. Over the years he’s worked with brands like Diesel, Chanel, Moncler and Adidas, amongst others.
In 2004, Louis Vuitton’s then-Men’s Creative Director Marc Jacobs enlisted Pharrell and NIGO to design a line of sunglasses for LV. A few years later in 2008 he again teamed up with the luxury brand to craft a collection of jewelry in collaboration with Camille Miceli.
However this time around, Williams will be leading the way.
